Brickwork, stonework & heritage stonework specialists
Over the years we have worked with nearly all of the materials there are to work with, so we have a good knowledge and hands on experience when it comes to slow, detailed and ornate heritage work along with the new build cavity wall or timber frame/ modular construction.

Modern metric gauge cement based work
With the introduction of Portland cement during the 19th century, the use of lime mortar in new constructions gradually declined. This was due to the ease of use of cement, its quick setting, and high strength. For this reason, cement continues to be commonly used in new brick and concrete construction, its use is not recommended in the repair and restoration of brick and stone-built structures originally built using lime mortar.
Tradition imperial lime work
Both cement and lime have there limitations and the real reason that cement has prevailed in new building sectors is that you can just build almost all year round, when limes (hot limes and nhl’s) should only be used from march to November. Egyptians were the first to use lime mortars about 6,000 and some Indian structures are still standing almost 4000 years later you (try to say that about a new timber frame build), it has flexible property’s, is some what self healing, is breathable unlike cement and is a very eco / green way to build as a good part of the co2 used to create it is taken back in over time by the lime mortar as it sets. Not a great deal gets to me more than when a client rings me up and telling me they have got someone else to do their job for c December/Jan rather than wait till march, if they use lime is will fail and they will be re doing the work in 1 to 3 years time. Also if it’s listed and cement is used not only is it breaking the law but it will not allow the original mortar and structure to breath leading to condensation, damp and a expensive rebuild down the line.
We recently had our driveway done and highly recommend this business. 5* From initial planning, right through to completion the customer service provided was excellent. There was great communication throughout, professionalism and the quality of the work was completed to a high standard. We are thrilled with our new driveway, it was completed exactly how we asked and within the timescale needed. Thank you.
